Butterflies
A smaller growing magnolia with light yellow, sunny flowers that come out in mid spring. The flowers have 10-16 tepals and have a light lemon aroma, and the tree is deciduous. Our tree in the garden is only about 8 ft. tall and 10 ft wide after 15 years. Dark-green elliptical leaves cover the tree through spring, summer and fall. The tree is also very hardy to both heat and cold, and can take a full-sun location. This cultivar is a hybrid between M. acuminata and M. denudata. Most often this tree is smaller, nice for smaller yards and gardens, and will even make a multi-stemmed shrub. Care must be taken to give this tree good drainage...it will not tolerate wet feet.
