Acer shirasawanum 'Aureum'
Acer shirasawanum 'Aureum'
This award-winning Shirasawa maple, also known as Golden Full Moon Maple, grows into a bushy, medium sized deciduous tree most known for its spectacular foliage. Mature trees are quite stunning in a landscape. The palmate leaves begin in spring, bright yellow gradually turning chartreuse by summer. In the fall the colors shift to shades of orange and red, occasionally blended with purple tones. The seed clusters, or samaras can be bright red, contrasting nicely with the yellow foliage. A slow growing tree that can be perfect for smaller gardens. Recipient of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society. Sun or part shade. Native to Japan. Hardy to zone 5.
