Korean Maple. This smaller stature tree, 15 ft to 20 ft. tall and wide, has medium to dark green serrated leaves with 9-11 doubly serrate lobes turn excellent shades of yellow, orange and red in fall. One of the best maples for fall color. Very hardy to zone 4, this maple can withstand much colder winters than the Japanese Maple, and has survived -43 degrees F in North Dakota. Purplish flowers open in spring with the new leaves. Usually planted as a specimen/accent tree for the small yard. It is native to northeastern China, Korea, and the Russian Far East.
