R. formosum var. iteophyllum

R. formosum var. iteophyllum

Rarely found in plant lists, this fragrant rhododendron is quite nice. The foliage is hairy/fuzzy and narrow. A form of the species R. formosum, the plant has similar flowers, but the foliage is quite different, being more narrow. First discovered by J.D. Hooker and T. Thompson in 1850, it is native to Assam, India growing between 2,000 and 6,000 ft. on rocks or along streams. Although the plant can be somewhat straggly, it will respond to pruning and be quite attractive. The flowers are white with pink and a kiss of yellow. Mildly fragrant.
