Picea abies 'Aurea Magnifica'
Picea abies 'Aurea Magnifica'
Here is a golden and dwarf form of Norway spruce. The tree was a broom found by Ottolander and Hooftman Nursery, Boskoop, The Netherlands around 1900. Excellent for contrast against dark-green foliage plants, which is most common in every garden. In colder winter locations the foliage takes on an orange hue, adding more interest. This tree will grow to 5 ft tall x 30 inchs wide in 10 years, so will fit in just about anyone's garden. Like most all Norway spruce it is hardy to -20 deg F, or zone 4. The lower branches do not lie on the ground, which is typical for most undersized forms, but are slightly raised. Shoots grow horizontally, giving the spruce a very beautiful rounded conical shape that does not change over the years.
