Hydrangea quercifolia 'Queen of Hearts'
Hydrangea quercifolia 'Queen of Hearts'
This hybrid of the famous Oak Leaf hydrangea 'Snow Queen' is just as spectacular, but grows a bit smaller. Still, it will top out at 6 ft tall x 9 ft wide over time. Popular for its tall, 9 inch flower clusters that start out white (photo A), but turn a deep pink (photo B) in late summer. The large, deeply-lobed, oak-like leaves are medium green in summer, turning a mahogany-red in fall. A good informal hedge or as specimens in a woodland garden. Native from Georgia to Florida to Louisiana. Hardy to zone 6.
