Abies balsamea 'Walcott Pond'
Abies balsamea 'Walcott Pond'
Growing only 1 or 2 inches per year, this chubby, conical selection of Balsam fir was originally found as a witch's broom in the early 2000's on the banks of Wolcott Pond near Wolcott, Vermont. Kate Brook Nursery introduced the find so we can have it in the trade, and now we have some that we can provide to our customers. The tree has ascending branchlets and glossy, dark-green needles, making a handsome specimen over time. This cultivar has a unique texture caused by the needles being spaced farther apart on the branchlets. Large resinous buds add interest as well.
