Ornamental Grasses - Singing Tree Gardens
Genus: Helictotrichon
Species: sempervirens
Blue Oat Grass
This western Mediterranean native grass is clump forming with wiry, vivid blue-grey leaves radiating out from the center to form a bristling round dome of foliage to 2.5 feet tall (like the form of a large pincushion). Moderately drought tolerant. Plant in full sun to light shade in well drained soil. It is evergreen in mild climates, while being semi-evergreen in cold climates. This is a cool-season grower flowering best if springtime conditions are cool and steadily moist. Plant with gold, low growing conifers like Thuja occ. 'Rhinegold' or gold foliage heathers like 'Robert Chapman'. You will love the texture and color of this grass in your garden.
