The name 'Nigra' refers to the black-maroon stems on this old cultivar. Easily recognized by those new to hydrangeas, the contrast of the stems to the bright glossy green leaves is dramatic! But wait, the flowers are equally beautiful; creamy-pink when they first emerge, then turning to a gorgeous blue and lasting from June into the fall. The plant grows to 6 ft. and will enjoy a shadier location than most. This cultivar was first discovered in China by Wilson and named 'Mandchurica'. One of our most popular hydrangeas. |
